Shepherd's Shelves Food Pantry Date November 2019

We are very thankful to everyone who has donated food, money or volunteered their time to help keep food on our shelves at the Shepherd’s Shelves Food Pantry. With your help in 2018, we served over 1,500 people.  So far this year, we have served 1,419 people.  This is pretty amazing when you consider we are only open twice a month and only once every other month when we have the Gleaners mobile pantry (so we are open 18 times a year).

To get ideas and other help, we are a member of the Hendricks County Food Pantry

Coalition. The Coalition brings people together to share ideas that have helped at their individual pantries.  The Coalition also has events where food and donations are collected and shared with all the members of the coalition.  At each monthly meeting, we also have a Gleaners mobile pantry come to the Hendricks County Fairgrounds where we hand out food to anyone who comes.

Shepherd’s Shelves is also a partner with Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana.  At the Gleaners warehouse, we are able to purchase items for our pantry at a very discounted price.  Also we are able to order fresh produce when it is in stock, which is given to us at no cost.  Through Gleaners, we are also able to do pickups at 3 grocery stores the Friday before our pantry on Saturday.  At these stores, we collect produce, frozen meat, dairy, bakery items and various cans, boxes and snack items.  After each pickup, we weigh everything and report back to Gleaners so that proper credit is given to the stores.

If you would like to make a donation, organize a food drive in your area, or volunteer your time to help feed the hungry in your community, please call the church  at 317-892-3245 or contact me at to get more information.

New Scout Troop

We at Pittsboro Christian Church are proud to be the charter organization for a new branch of Scouting. Troop #319 is the first all-girl Scout Troop in Pittsboro. The 12 girls in the troop are now part of an international legacy that has heretofore been exclusively male. Congratulations to Troop #319!

Meetings are at the church on the 4th Monday of each month.
